Splendors and Glooms - 1stPass

Hi guys, these are a couple characters from the project (Splendors and Glooms - Laura Amy Schlitz) I'm working on. The first character is Parsefall Hooke, he's a 11-yr-old orphan apprentice of Grisini (character next to him). He's a rebel, but also a brave little guy. He lost one of his fingers (right hand) because Grisini filed it.

And Grisini.... he's a crook.

The pocket watch is Grisini's 'magic wand'. I designed it to have some Venetian elements, like the sun and moon mask for the exterior, and winged lion of Saint Mark (Venetian's symbol). Inside, I also wanted to add sun and moon, but I made it sublime (see if you can find it). The wolf can move its jaw and the crane can move the wings a little. What do you think?

Hello! After I got back from CTN and got a lot of great feedback from people I admire, I decide to work on a new project based on a children's novel called 'Splendors and Glooms' by Laura Amy Schlitz. I must say, I really enjoyed this book. The story was dark (which I really love to do) and the setting was in Victorian England. It's about two orphans and a girl who fell into the world of magic and puppetry. The bad guy named Gaspare Grisini. He was a puppeteer and a magician. The two orphans were his assistants and they despised him. The story started with a girl named Clara who wanted to invite Grisini and his orphan assistants to perform for her birthday party. Grisini, with his magic, kidnapped and turned Clara into a puppet. The two orphans had a hunch that Clara might be kidnapped by Grisini, so they decided to play detective. As they dug deeper into the mystery, they found out that it's not only about kidnapping.

Anywho, I have some thumbnails (not really, hahaha, I draw big 'thumbnails') of Grisini. I wonder if you can help me pick which one you like the best. The reference might not be as useful (just yet), but I imagine Steve Buscemi playing this character hahaha. And Willem Dafoe's cobra-head hair is pretty neat!!! Based on the story, Grisini was shady and cadaverous. He had a set of bad teeth, bloodshot eyes, furrows on face, and few curly hairs growing out of his nostrils. Maybe he should be more skinny like a stick since his name is Grisini and he's cadaverous. And I imagine him to be a trickster. He's poor, but still had enough to eat. So, he could use a little more meat, just to contrast him to his 2 skinny apprentices. It would make him more evil that way, I guess. So, what do u think?

APE - Thank You!

Thank you very much for every one. APE was a great experience! Meeting people and talk to them definitely raised my motivation to get better. And CTN is next :)! By the way, this is sticker that I gave away to kids at APE!

APE Day 1 - Thank you

Hello every one, I just wanna say thank you very much for coming today to our table. It was a blast. I was kinda nervous since it's my first time joining this kind of events, but wow, every one here was very kind! I got to catch up with my friends from AAU and made tons of new ones :)

I think I look very awkward when people bought my prints and requested it to be signed. I never signed anything except legal n official documents, so I just wrote down my name, and I think I forgot to sign one :(. I'm sorry! But, really, it meant so much to me that people came to chat or buy my stuff. Thank you so much!!! :))))

A rough sketch of Jack. I started out with a bean (or egg) shape, since it's Jack and the Beanstalk. I don't usually draw nude (in underwear) first, but this one helped me to understand his body better.

Bye Bluebeard

Below are some concepts for French folktale, Bluebeard. I've been working on this project for 2 semesters, and it's going nowhere :(. It's originally one of my thesis projects, but I have to drop this. Instead, I picked up a new one :). I'm not giving up on this, it's just time to let go and move on! Maybe I will work on this again in the future.

I did this for my biz card, but decided to scrap it, cause the pink didn't go well with my other art works :).. I went through all my works, I have more blue-ish color scheme :)

Little Samurai

Small is better! I always hate the printout, my composition always looks so empty. Anyways, this is Andy, he loves to play samurai, but no one wants to play with him. This is part of my side project and my advanced perspective hw (and I suck at it). I might tweak the composition when I get to color :)
